And due to the fact it not something many people do, finding out all of the intricacies involved may not be as simple as you might imagine. Important Terms You Need To Understand

Unfortunately, there is no avoiding the endless stream of paperwork involved when you are moving countries or shipping goods. We cannot solve this problem but it is essential that you understand the various terms, which should then assist you in completing that paperwork. The Box Zone can handle this entire international shipping process.

The Shipper – This may seem obvious but this is the person sending the goods, so in this instance it will be you. When you are the shipper you have certain responsibilities such an ensuring that the items you are sending are totally legal, and that you have paid or are prepares to pay any customs charges that might fall due. Make certain you know and understand all the rules and regulations specific to the destination country as well as the country you are sending items from.

The Importer – In this instance, you will also be the importer, as we are imagining a scenario where you are moving countries. So you are both the shipper and the importer.

The International Shipping Company – Unfortunately, international shipping is not something you can undertake yourself, and so you will be employing the services of a shipping company. This is who you will working with, who will ensure the job is complete properly and safely and to your satisfaction. They may well use subcontractors and other companies, but your contract and agreements will be with them , so make sure you do your due diligence and employ a company that are easy to contact and communicate with, and who have a good reputation online.

The Origin Agent – This will be the company responsible for visiting your home, assessing what is being moved, and packing it up. Basically, they deal with the starting part of your properties journey. They will be employed by the international shipping company which is beneficial as you then only require one point of contact.

The Freight Forwarder – This is the company responsible for all of the documentation for the export of your goods, and the transportation from your property to the dock.

The Destination Agent – This is the equivalent of the Freight Forwarder at the destination country. They will handle the customs, the delivery of the items to your new home.

There are a few other terms involved in the process, but in most cases, they will be invisible to you. This video may help to explain things for you, and give you some more ideas and considerations.
